How to run a report

To run a Xapien report navigate to the New Report tab located at the top of the Xapien portal and select what type of report you would like to run.

Once selected, you will be taken to the page to enter the details of the person/organisation.

Switching between a person or organisation report can be done using the Person/Organisation toggle. The type of report you selected appears white on the toggle.

Reports are run using the following information:

  • A person or company name

  • A piece of related context

  • For a person report:

  • The subject’s LinkedIn profile. Ensure it is well populated by including detailed information such as employment history, roles, and education.

  • An associated company name or university (can include subject’s alma mater)

  • An associated person (with an online presence)

  • For an organisation report:

  • The company’s LinkedIn profile. Profiles that include comprehensive data about the company, its goals, and services are preferable.

  • The company’s main homepage (i.e. google.com not google.com/about-us)

  • An associated person (with an online presence)

How to add multiple pieces of context:

Multiple pieces of context can be used by clicking on the plus sign next to the context textbox for a person report, or by clicking on Advanced Search for an org report. A maximum of three pieces of context can be used for a report.

This related context is used to help identify your subject and reduce the number of false positive matches. Using more context can make your subject more easily identifiable - it is particularly helpful if your subject has a very common name or works for a very large organisation.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

When choosing context sources, be mindful of the following:

  • Generic Organization Names: Avoid names like "The Key Group" that are too broad and lack specificity.

  • Low-Quality Sources: Do not rely on blogs or forums with questionable credibility.

  • Ambiguous Identifiers: For people, supplement names with robust references such as LinkedIn profiles to avoid multiple matches.

Best Practices for Context Selection

To ensure your reports are as detailed and accurate as possible, follow these best practices:

  1. Relevance: Select context directly tied to your subject. Irrelevant sources dilute the report’s accuracy.

  2. Credibility: Use trustworthy sources such as official websites

  3. Structured Data: Prefer machine-readable sources like LinkedIn with detailed information.

  4. Uniqueness: Avoid generic terms; use unique identifiers like specific names or structured profiles.

When the information has been input, select the Go button at the bottom of the page. The system will check that the enquiry looks sensible before processing your report.

When Xapien is running at full capacity, any new report requests are placed in a queue and processed as soon as space becomes available.
