Discarding removes information from a report that isn't about your subject. It's the counterpart to Confirming from Review: Confirm brings relevant information in, Discard takes irrelevant information out.
Who is this for? All users with Edit access to the report. Viewers are unable to remove information. Discard isn't available on reports run before 3 April 2026.
When to use Discard
Use it when a report contains information about someone or something other than your subject: an article, a corporate record or a screening result that's been tied to your subject because they share a name with the person it's really about.
Example: a report on David Schwimmer, CEO of LSEG, includes content about David Schwimmer the actor. Discard removes it, with no need to contact support or re-run the report.
Discard is for content that isn't about your subject. If a finding is about your subject but you disagree with it or don't want it included, Discard isn't the right option. Editing report text directly is coming in a future update.
How to discard information
Click the highlighted claim text you want to remove. Click the words themselves, not the source pill or the "+N" count after them: those open the sources for the claim, but don't offer the discard option.
In the panel that opens on the right, tick the box at the top to mark the claim as incorrect.
Optionally, click other claims to mark them at the same time.
Select the Remove findings bubble at the top of the report.
Check the list of what will be removed, then select Next.
Click Update report to remove the flagged items.
The report updates in the background. Keep reading while it does; a banner at the top shows progress.
❗️Discard can't be undone. Be sure the content isn't about your subject before you select Update.
Photos and logos
If the subject's photo is wrong, click it and choose Mark image as incorrect. Xapien replaces it with the next most likely image for your subject. Organisation logos can't be changed in the same way; if a logo is wrong, re-run the report or contact support.
What happens when you discard
Sections rewrite to stay consistent. The removed information, and any other part of the report that referred to it, is rewritten so the report reads as one coherent picture.
If the claim's only source was that one, the source is removed from the report too.
The report stays usable. You can keep reading and moving around while the update completes.
Ask Xapien stays in sync. Once a claim is discarded, Ask Xapien won't use it in answers.
Things to note
One update at a time. While a discard is in progress you'll need to wait for it to finish before confirming or discarding anything else.
Related Organisations and Related People don't update on discard. Only the main body of the report is rewritten.
Older reports. Discard isn't available on reports run before 3 April 2026. Re-run the report to use it.
